Telemark bindings, period!
22 Designs was formed in 2004 by Chris Valiante and Collins Pringle when they inherited the HammerHead binding from Rainey Designs. Numerous cutting-edge telemark bindings have followed:
- Axl: introduced in 2009, this is an acclaimed and bombproof free-pivot binding
- Vice: introduced in 2012, it includes features of the Axl, but is designed as a resort skiing 75mm binding with three pivot positions to get fully dialed
- Outlaw X: the world’s first step-in NTN binding and built to last
- Lynx: the most recent in the lineup, this is an NTN tech-toe light touring binding
Why 22 Designs?
22 Designs was started out of a love for telemark skiing and the company is named for Wyoming Highway 22, which travels over Teton Pass. – 22 Designs
For those of you who don’t know this tectonic giant, Teton Pass is situated 11 miles west of Jackson, Wyoming, and connects the Jackson Hole Valley with the Teton Valley of eastern Idaho. The summit is about 8,400 feet above sea level and has a maximum grade of 10%. For any of you who have driven it, you know what this means when it’s snowing two inches an hour and the plows can’t keep up. For those of you who haven’t been to this part of the world, it’s worth the trip.
Teton Pass is a renowned backcountry skiing area and has become one of the most popular locales for shredding in the country. It is also very close to Driggs, Idaho, where 22 Designs is based. With easy access to two fantastic ski areas and endless backcountry adventures, Driggs allows 22 Designs to easily field test their products.
Why Does 22 Designs Make Bindings in the USA and not Overseas?
We’ve always felt that making our products in the US would mean better quality and allow us to support our local community, as well as other small manufacturers around the country. It also reduces freight costs and emissions, as well as allows us to be nimbler with new designs and improvements. – 22 Designs
And it’s working! 22 Designs is expanding. American-made outdoor gear is selling and 22 Designs is benefiting its community and the local economy.
Environmentally Conscious Too
We strive to be an environmentally conscious company. Every binding that we produce is made in the USA with the most durable materials and designed to last a lifetime. We buy all custom parts and materials from here in the US, but it’s possible that some of the raw material our vendors use is sourced from overseas. Our office and R&D and assembly shop are powered by renewable energy, offset with Green-e certified Renewable Energy Certificates and Carbon Offsets from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. – 22 Designs
Let’s give it up for a growing company that currently has five employees for taking the bull by the horns and not just talking a good game. 22 Designs is not just talk; they are taking action for the betterment of the planet while putting out great products and creating jobs and benefiting the local economy at the same time.
Both Chris and Collins are telemark skiers and mechanical engineers who are dedicated to producing the best telemark bindings in the world. Our sole focus is to constantly pursue new ideas to produce bindings that exceed the expectations of our customers. With the energy of doing what we love, 22 Designs is now the worldwide leader in Telemark bindings. – 22 Designs
